On many different levels this is a first for us. This is our first Sumatran offering, our first wet-hulled offering, and our first offering partnering with Crop to Cup Coffee Importers.
We're very moved by this Sumatran. This lot is incredibly dynamic. We initially get freshly harvested wild Maine blueberries, wild strawberries, and cedar. The cup itself is fresh and clean. It has a lighter body, with notes of peppercorn, brown sugar, and vanilla in the finish. It's a well rounded, beautiful coffee not to be missed.
From our friends over at Crop to Cup Coffee Importers:
Lintong refers to a specific area to the South of Sumatra's Lake Toba. The people here are from the Batak Tribe, like many around the lake. Only in Lintong you'll find more cars in driveways and more satellite dishes on rooofs. It's because specialty coffee came here first - Lintong was the first area to be developed for Specialty coffee outside the Dutch plantation in Aceh. Sparkling lemon-lime acidity and complex sugars are the hallmark of a good Lintong, and the characteristics on which this region's reputation was built.
This coffee is a superb Lintong, gathered by a single collector from a group of 300 women, mostly widows. The world "Nauli' means 'pretty' in the local language, and 'Batak' refers to the Tribe. Batak Nauli is a new project and one that we are happy to be a part of from year one.
